Mission Creek Players was founded in 1978,
with a
mission to produce artistically intelligent theater for its own sake.
The group
existed mainly as a truck company, producing shows in theaters and less
likely
venues. Victorian Village, a tiny 75-seat theater,
- At the Franklin House, at the NCW Museum,
at the Wenatchee High School, At the WVC Campus Theater, on the deck
behind the
Horan House, at the Convention Center, at the Red Lion, the Four
Seasons Inn in
East Wenatchee, in the banquet room at the
Chieftain restaurant, and for four years in the Mission Performing Arts
Center
at 23 South Mission.
In
late 2005 Mission Creek Players, in a unique arrangement with the
Wenatchee
World, began construction of a new intimate performing arts center, The
Pressroom Theatre. The space once housed the giant printing presses
that printed the daily newspaper, and stood empty since the new
printing facility on Ninth street was built for this purpose. The room
contained large acoustic panels which were used to mute the sound of
the presses from the rest of the building, which now give the theater
excellent acoustics for live performance. This will be a versatile
performance space for dinner
theatre / cabaret style entertainment but flexible enough for other
community
uses also.
We
are doing this not just because we love live theatre… but because
community theatre
builds a stronger community.
Communities
are built through making connections. To experience live theater is to
witness
a community coming together. There is a give and take between the
audience and
the actors onstage. There is a connection. Theater is a shared
experience.
Watching television isolates. Live theater unites.
Mission
Creek Players always has an open door to anyone in the community who
wants or
needs an opportunity for creative expression. We will again be offering
free
classes and workshops on acting, improvisation, and other theatre arts.
Our
membership is a diverse mix of teachers and students, attorneys and
retirees,
laborers and artists, young and old. We are
a community.
Mission
Creek Players does much more than produce plays and sponsor classes. We
also
build community by giving back to the community. It is our custom to
have
benefit performances for various community causes. Since 1992, Mission
Creek
Players have raised over $15,000 for local charities. Habitat for
Humanity received
$1800 from our Haunted Theatre fundraiser in 2004, and $1,200 from the
same
event in 2005.
We also make our
facilities available to other groups for events, especially fundraisers.
