 What makes us different?

   Benefits for local charities

Mission Creek Players have donated opening night proceeds to many charities including CASA, Wenatchee Senior Center, Wenatchee Valley College Foundation, NCW Professional Women’s Organization, and Supporters of the Center. Our yearly Haunted House has benefited the United Way and Habitat for Humanity.

    Youth and adult educational programs

In the past, we have hosted regular free acting, improvisational, and directing classes for both youth and adults, and these will resume when our theater is complete.

Outlet for local playwrights and artists

Mission Creek Players encourage the production of new works by local authors. We are also known as a welcoming haven for first time actors, directors, and producers.

Affordable and flexible facility for all non-profit groups

The Pressroom Theatre will be a uniquely affordable and flexible space, with technical capabilities for live theater, multimedia, and concerts, as well as open space and seating for dinner theater and catered events, workshops, meetings, and receptions.

   Dedicated un-compensated volunteers

Our dedicated members volunteer all their time. Our Board Members, Producers and Directors take no stipend or Honorariums.

The construction of the Pressroom Theatre meant an expense of over $30,000 to Mission Creek Players. We are not supported by any federal or state agencies. We hope to pay these expenses through ticket sales to our dramatic productions as well as our annual Haunted Theater – so that the Pressroom may exist to enrich the entire community! Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Board meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM at the Pressroom Theatre

Mission Creek Players has had a number of homes over the years, most recently at the Mission Avenue Performing Arts Center and now the nearly completed Pressroom Theatre at the Wenatchee World and we are working towards purchasing a future permanent facility.

Why do so many volunteers give so generously, working countless hours and contributing money from their own pockets to keep this group alive?

Because we matter.

Because we do affect peoples lives… on both sides of the curtain.

Here’s an example from a member:

" I joined Mission Creek Players ten years ago at the age of seventeen and found a creative, safe environment. Becoming involved with theatre at that age redirected my attention from unproductive youthful misbehaving into art. I was able to meet mentors and individuals in the community that I respected and idolized. More and more of my time was spent rehearsing and preparing for a production then that of my friends who spent most of their time partying and getting into trouble.

If it was not for that first production where I found my place; then I only can imagine where I would be now.

People say that we, as in actors, do it for the audience. That’s not entirely true. Entertaining people is important, and I enjoy hearing an audience react to a show. But that’s only what happens on stage. Behind the curtain I have found something far better then the feeling that I get when the lights go up. I found family. A second mom or two, a father figure that believed in me. And even though I already have thirteen siblings, I have found more brothers and sisters then I know what to do with. Theatre is more then lights and makeup. It’s more then the performance the community gets to see. It’s home. "

Our emphasis now, besides producing stage plays, is on outreach and education.
We want to bring this experience to as many people as we can. That’s why we are once again starting our free  classes where anyone can drop in and sign up and try their hand at acting exercises in a supportive non-threatening environment. If they want to go further, we try to give them the opportunity.
Here’s another member:

"I got involved with Mission Creek Players through their free adult acting classes.  They didn't ask for theatre experience, or expect me to know anything, they just welcomed me in and got me involved.  Right after that, I got to participate in their 2003 Haunted Theatre, which is a great way to immerse yourself in every aspect of the theatre; acting, make-up, costumes, building sets, lighting, sound, behind-the-scenes work, managing volunteers, and sticking to a budget.  My involvement in the Haunt also got me into a play, when I was cast in "Deathtrap" for Music Theatre of Wenatchee.  I feel that I've got my foot in the door in community theatre here, and Mission Creek Players is the group that got me started, without a theatre portfolio, with no acting experience, and without ruthless competition for a part."

We have also found that a side benefit our annual Haunted Theatre fundraiser is that it attracts new people. New volunteers come out of nowhere it seems every year because it looks like we are having so much fun. And actually, even after the hundreds of hours of hard work, it is fun.

Several people every year get bitten by the community theatre bug that way. For some it is their first volunteer service. We bring people away from their televisions and out of their houses and get them involved. It’s good for them. It’s good for us. It’s good for other groups like Music theater of Wenatchee and Leavenworth Summer Theater. It’s good for the community.

"I've just started with Mission Creek Players, and got to work in the Haunted Theatre 2005.  It's been great to have an outlet for my creativity.  I got to create a whole room from scratch, including costumes, and then act in it.  I like working with special effects makeup, and they welcome all skill levels, so I felt free to try a lot of new things.  Mission Creek Players is very good at acknowledging the contributions of their volunteers.  They really appreciate everything everyone brings to a production."

Now, here is how your gift will make a real difference. We must plan for the future and that means a permanent facility. We have an opportunity to apply virtually all our future revenue during the life of our lease of the Pressroom Theatre space toward that objective. This is made possible due to the generous terms of our lease with the Wenatchee World (It’s a buck a year). A permanent home is now actually possible. Except…

We really need new lighting equipment. We only have a handful of ancient lighting instruments and they aren’t really the ones we need. Our sound system is pathetic. And we don’t really want to subject more audiences to our chairs. That’s just cruel for a 2 hour show.  Oh… and tables… and a teaser curtain…   and stage skirting…. and portable steps, for getting on and off stage. All these needs will divert our funds and that threatens our long term need to build cash reserves for the future.

Your gift will take us from struggling to survive to having real hope for the future… and it will give the community a new, fully equipped small venue for a wide range of events and performances. And everything will move with us to our home when that day comes.

So your gift would help in four ways.

1)    It keeps us from having to divert cash from our building fund.

2)    It allows us to maximize revenues because it’s easier to sell tickets to comfortable seating in a theater with decent production equipment than… well… the alternative.

3)    It allows others to produce a variety of events, enriching cultural diversity and raising money for local causes.

4)    It helps us continue our tradition of giving some funds from every production we do to a local non-profit.

This is what you need to know about Mission Creek Players:

We’re poor… We’re grateful…

We share… and we give back.
